Men's Pie Club: Fighting Isolation One Pie at a Time

Men's Pie Club

In the heart of Leeds, nestled within the vibrant Kirkgate Market, there exists a place where camaraderie and comfort food go hand in hand. You may not know that every time you buy a class at Leeds Cookery School, you’re supporting the community through our partner charity, Zest. One example of their work is the Men’s Pie club, a unique club that brings together men who, through the simple act of making homemade pies, are combating social isolation and building lasting friendships.

A Slice of Community

It’s not just about the pies. It’s about the guys making the pies. Every week, the lads meet with a singular mission: to create tasty pies whilst fostering a sense of community amongst its members. The Men's Pie Club provides a welcoming space where members can come together, share stories, and support each other. Phil, a Pie Club regular, said: ‘It’s something nice to make, a bit of comradery, a bit of a laugh, gets everybody out the house and we all enjoy it.’

The Role of Zest

Zest, the charity behind Leeds Cookery School, is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the people in Leeds. They believe that good food really is the ingredient that binds us together. By participating in the Leeds Cookery School classes, you can directly support Zest and its programs. Not only will you learn new culinary skills, but you'll also be contributing to a charity that works tirelessly to improve the well-being of the Leeds community.

Looking Forward

As the Men's Pie Club continues to thrive and grow, it stands as a testament to the power of community. For the men who gather each week at Kirkgate Market, it’s not just about the pies; it’s about the friendships, the laughter and the support they find in each other. Because life isn’t always easy, but making pies is.
